Surprising Classic Wedding
We chose a fairly simple wedding, “Mijke says,“ only
30 guests during the day and 120 for the evening
party. The wedding was performed by a civil registrar
at the late gothic palace Markiezenhof in Bergen op
Zoom in the south of Holland, no church wedding was
involved. I wore the same dress during the day and in
the evening.
The photographs are taken in de Heen, a rural area
close by. It looks as if we are in some remote area,
doesn’t it?”
“I wanted a classic wedding dress, not one with loads
of fluffy tulle and stuff . My normal dress code is quite
basic, that is how I feel at ease. I had one real wish: I
wanted lace sleeves on my shoulder like the dress that
our Queen Maxima wore at her wedding.
Peter George took this on and designed a dress with
a rather straightforward front, and a surprising tied
back. That is important, as wedding guests look a lot at
your back during the ceremony.
I had to fit some other dresses of Peter George for size,
and then the dress was made of a heavy silk with a lace
upper.
The dress was just right for me, as people commented.
It is much more personal than buying a dress at a
bridal shop. With Peter George you can discuss what
sort of dress you like, so that you are really yourself
during the wedding.”
